ADR Training – Packages Module
Background
The ADR qualification is required for drivers who transport dangerous goods. These are goods ‘classified’ as dangerous by the ADR Agreement itself.
Drivers are required to be qualified, and hold the certificate for, the relevant modules for the goods they will be transporting. These modules are Core, Packages, Tanks, Classes 1 – 9.
In this article we will discuss the Packages module.
What is the Packages module
When transporting dangerous goods in containment other than tanks (packages and bulk), drivers must be in possession of an ADR certificate that includes the Packages module.
The Packages module gives drivers the knowledge and understanding of the packaging requirements, as well an insight into the the dangers and potential for incidents. The module also contains information of how and when ADR exemptions can apply.
The Packages module includes:
- The general requirements governing the carriage of dangerous goods in packages and bulk
The full syllabus and more details can be found in the ADR Course Guide.
Do I need the Packages module
The Packages module must be passed by drivers who transport dangerous goods in containment ‘other than tanks’. This includes packaging such as boxes, Intermediate Bulk Containers (IBCs) or in Bulk.
When carrying out ADR training and in order to gain a valid ADR certificate, at least the Packages or Tanks module must be taken.
